What are most artists thinking about day to day?

What do all artists want at the end of the day? What processes can someone use to create a piece of music? What are principles an artist should follow to make money without compromising their art? How to explain bad grades to parents?

I am so terrified by their reaction - it's not so much them being angry or yelling at me or anything, it's more of how i'm going to make them disappointed in me which is the last thing I want.
