Does it make sense for the new structure to stand out or fit in?

There is no single right answer, but there are extremes as well as hybrid approaches worth exploring. A museum, for instance, might reasonably be expected to stand apart from its surroundings. Shape and style can signal cultural significance and contemporary origins.
