Some are getting together in a party to acquaint each other for another year in school

Now that college school finally starts its school year, I don't see a reason why there are lots of get-together party going on. Some are throwing a party since they are gonna part ways with their friends because they will go to different schools. I remember the acquaintance party I have attended during my college and it was all fun.
